FAQ

How long does it take to develop a high level of proficiency in an instrument?

Malcolm Gladwell has written some books which have recently become famous, The Tipping Point, Blink, and Outliers (http://www.gladwell.com/outliers/index.html and http://www.artsjournal.com/artfulmanager/main/wanna-get-to-carnegie-hall-got.php). In Outliers Gladwell states his research indicates that it takes 10,000 hours for a person to achieve a level of excellence beyond her peers in any field. That rule is certainly true among great musicians.

Music proficiency is not something you can pick up at a weekend seminar. It requires consistent effort over a long period of time. That said, a good teacher will have you playing a song of some kind in your first less. You may only want to be able to play a few songs for your friends at a party. Even that will require work. If you want to be great it will take consistent, hard, concentrated work over a long peried of time.

How much time will lessons take?

Beginners usually only need about half an hour of instruction per week.Typically private and group classes run anywhere from half an hour to about an hour and a half. The more you practice, and the more advanced you become in your instrument, the more time is typically required for instruction. You will be expected to practice at least 45 minutes a day between lessons (about four hours between lessons) in order to get the most out of your lesson times. If you practice much more you may need longer or more frequent lessons.

When are lessons?

Private lessons can be scheduled according to student convenience and teacher availability. Group classes are scheduled at discrete times during the week, mostly on Saturday. Inquire with the office concerning lesson timings and availability for your particular instrument.

Where are lessons?

All lessons through CME are taught at our CME Campus in one of the lesson studios

How much does music training cost?

Cost depends on the qualification and experience of the teacher and whether lessons are taught in groups or privately. Group classes are typically about 600-900 rupees per month (assuming 4 lessons per month). Private classes run anywhere from 800 rupees per month with a music intern (one of our CME degree student teachers) to 1300 rupees per month for weekly half-hour to forty-five minute lessons with a senior master teacher. Inquire with the CME office for fees for your particular instrument and lesson format.
